Lot description
In "SyStematicS #2," Eric Haze creates a composition of bold colors and lines through a systematic layering of geometric forms. Allowing the shapes to dictate the space, Haze uses color to emphasize the interactions between line and form, ultimately creating a complex pattern of juxtaposing elements that pops with depth and intrigues with an unexpected harmony.

Eric Haze (b. 1961) is a notorious graffiti artist whose style and approach had a defining impact on the art, design, and Hip Hop cultures of the 1980s. Growing up in New York City, Haze developed his distinctive, graphic writing style on the Upper West Side, tagging along the 1 and 3 subway lines. In 1986, Haze opened his own design studio, creating meticulously detailed, graphic designs for influential Hip Hop artists such as the Beastie Boys, Public Enemy, and EPMD, thus shaping the look and feel of Hip Hop culture. Today, Haze continues to collaborate with industry leaders, lending his design talents to various brands. Returning to his own artwork, Haze produced new paintings and drawings for a solo exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Hong Kong, China in 2008 and most recently held a solo show at Known Gallery, Los Angeles, CA in 2011. His work was also featured in the 2011 exhibition "Art in the Streets" at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, CA, which also included works by other street artists Futura 2000, Banksy, Shepard Fairey, and Rammellzee.
