Lot description
Female American Post-Modern artist Dianora Niccolini (US, 1936) is widely regarded as a pioneering photographer of the male nude. "Stretching"(1981) is a stunning silver gelatin print example of the grace, power and sensual aspect that defines her work. Dimensions: 11 x 14 inches (27.9 x 35.6 cm) This work is from an edition of 25 and is signed, dated, numbered and in excellent condition. Niccolini began her photographic career in the 1960's upon meeting world-renowned photographer Weegee.

In 1975, an exhibition of her work was threatened with closure by New York City police due to the subject matter of the male nude. Of that exhibit, Sunday New York Times art critic Gene Thornton wrote "Dianora Niccolini . . . comes about as close to idealization as is possible in photography."
The artist has been the subject of countless solo and group exhibitions since the early 1970's and her photographs are in many of the top Museum Collections including:
The National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington, DC.;
The Museum of Fine Arts, (The Allan Chasanoff Photographic Collection), Houston, Texas;
The Florida Museum of Photographic Arts, Tampa, Florida;
The Tampa Museum of Art, Tampa, Florida;
