Lot description
This homemade print was executed on an office colour copy machine in 1986 on two sheets of Arches Text paper. Known for his experimental printing techniques, Hockney combines oversimplified line and color with complex printing patterns to create a collage-like print. Hockney's decision to utilize two pieces of paper to bring together the artist's unique approach to the still-life tradition further enhances the collaged appearance.

An important contributor to the Pop art movement of the 1960s, David Hockney is considered one of the most influential British artists of the twentieth century. Best-known for his 1960s series featuring Los Angeles swimming pools and their denizens, Hockney paints in a bright and deliberately naive style drawing his subject matter from popular culture. In his first mature works of the 1950s, Hockney painted narratives, often unabashedly featuring gay themes, in an expressionistic almost childlike manner. Moving to California inspired him to produce the simplified archaic forms in bright California colors for which he is now best known. David Hockney is based in Yorkshire and London, England.
