Lot description
Like his "Spot" paintings, Damien Hirst's “Oleoylsarcosine” is a uniquely colored and arranged print. As a unique work, with 48 colored spots, it is registered in the Damien Hirst Archive. The work has never been framed and remains in the original packing, which underscores the quality and freshness of the print’s colors and surface.

First exhibited in 1988, Hirst’s “Spot” works, otherwise known as the “Pharmaceutical Paintings”, have become one of the art world’s most recognizable images of contemporary art. Initially conceived as a scientific approach to painting much like the drug companies’ scientific approach to life, Hirst has sought to document the innumerable unique arrangements he could conceive by altering the color, size and placement of dots. As Hirst states: “mathematically, with the spot paintings, I probably discovered the most fundamentally important thing in any kind of art, which is the harmony of where color can exist on its own, interacting with other colors in a perfect format”.
