Lot description
This striking spray enamel on canvas work by CRASH was executed in 1988. Known for his appropriation of comic book characters and neo-pop imagery, “Flies” exhibits the artist's distinctive style of bright colors and fractured compositions.

John "CRASH" Matos is regarded as one of the most influential and successful member of the Graffiti art movement. He began tagging at the age of 13, and his early murals on the sides of buildings and subway cars inspired a generation of painters. He later moved on to more complex works on canvas, often incorporating carefully selected images from popular culture. In addition to being featured in MOCA’s ‘Art in the Streets’ exhibition in 2011, his work has been exhibited at Addict Galerie, Paris, France; The Esplanade (Singapore), Opera Gallery (London, UK), and Toy Tokyo Underground (New York, NY), among others.
