Greta Garbo in Inspiration, December 20, 1930. From an edition of 99. Printed in 1980 from the original 8x10 camera negatives. Stamped signed, blind embossed. Clarence Sinclair Bull's stamp on verso, numbered on verso.

Clarence Sinclair Bull (1896-1979) began his career in Hollywood in 1918 as an assistant cameraman at Metro Pictures, shooting stills of actors and actresses during production breaks. When Metro and Goldwyn merged to form MGM in 1924, he became the head of the MGM stills department. During this time he photographed legendary stars such as Clark Gable, Joan Crawford, Katharine Hepburn, Hedy Lamarr, Gary Cooper, Elizabeth Taylor, Vivian Leigh, Spencer Tracy, Ava Gardner, Grace Kelly, and, of course, Greta Garbo. His classic images of movie stars, particularly his collaboration with Greta Garbo, whom he photographed almost exclusively from 1929 until 1941, captured the allure and romance of Hollywood. Bull was influential in beginning the tradition of celebrity portraiture that has endured until today.
