"Peace" (2007) is a rare and exciting example of the iconic paintings and sculptures of renowned Contemporary Indian artist Chintan Upadhyay (India. B. 1972) are some of the most famous and sought after works in the international art market, not only for their unique and clever iconography, themes and compositions, but also for their satirical commentaries on the current age of materialism, globalization, and current culture. Critiquing the subverted system of values often perpetuated in today’s society, he is most famous for his use the image of a baby, as seen here with his body "tattooed" in ornate traditional, intricate and very colorful traditional Indian imagery. These babies are super-human in feel, depicted in poses and gestures that make them into caricatures as seen here, with a standing baby looking upwards, towards the future, giving the 'peace' sign with both hands. The baby figure's of the artist this becomes a metaphor for the interface between 'Old and New' India.

The artist's most desirable paintings tend to have monochromatic, slick, backgrounds as seen here in a rare electric pink color. This color, combined with the tattooed detailing of the baby heightens the gesture and message of the work. Here we see another fixture of Chintan's paintings and sculpture, the inescapable black shadow, a feature which follows this infantile character through most paintings and sculptures.

Critiquing the subverted system of values often perpetuated in today’s society, he is most famous for his use the image of a baby, usually tattooed or covered in traditional and very colorful traditional Indian imagery. These babies are super-human in feel, depicted in poses such as here, with a standing baby giving the 'peace' sign with both hands. Thus this figure is a metaphor for the interface between 'Old and New' India. His most desirable paintings tend to have dramatic colored slick-background, taking the figures out of any specific context. "Peace" is in rare electric pink color that he used during 2007-08 only, and this neon, "Bollywood" inspired color heightens the details and intricacy of the baby and his black shadow, a feature which follows this infantile character throughout Chintan's paintings and sculptures.

The intense visual overload of Chintan's paintings and sculptures is intentional and possess the same affect that consumerist media advertising does, to assault the viewer with fragmented symbolism and references to contemporary technologies. The artist is highly sought after, with his 'Baby' paintings and sculptures the most sought after world-wide. He has exhibited extensively across the globe at such venues as the Seoul Art Center (Seoul, Korea), Arts India Gallery (New York, NY), National Gallery of Modern Art (Mumbai, India), and Gallery 27 (Oslo, Norway), among others.
