Lot description
This incredible silkscreen print in colors by critically acclaimed Chinese Contemporary artist Cai Zhisong (B. China, 1972) is a rare and powerful work, inspired by his world-renowned intricate figurative sculptures of ancient Chinese warriors. Inspired by the art and armour of the Qin and Han Dynasties, Cai expresses his fascination with historic Chinese culture through a visual effect of erosion and wearing down of a surviving warrior of the past, conversely built to a forceful, monumental-like effect. Sacred elements like the cross-like structure, the bowing of the head, and intricate texturing evoke an indigenous quality and reverence to the past in his pieces. This print 42.5 х 29.95 in (108 x 76 cm), is from an edition of 69 +1 AP and is in excellent condition.

Cai Zhisong was born in Shenyang, Liaoning, China and graduated from the prestigious Central Academy of Fine Arts for both his Undergraduate and Graduate degrees. His work was exhibited in the 2011 Venice Biennale and was the first Chinese artist to win the prestigious Taylor Prize awarded the Paris Autumne Salon in Eiffel-Branly, France. Cai's work has been the subject of several major exhibitions including “The 9th National Art Exhibition” at the National Art Museum of China, Beijing, the National Museum of Indonesia, Jakarta, Indonesia, and the Regensburg Museum in Germany amongst others.
