Lot description
"Alienation No. 12" (2012) is an exciting Neo-Pop painting by important, young female Chinese Contemporary multi-media artist Biying Zhang, (China, b. 1984). One of the artist's finest works to-date, this work is Biting's neon vision of Modern-day China, filled with kitsch-based, pastiche-style imagery that underscores the variety of influences on the culture, economy and politics of her country and exudes the kinetic and dizzying pace of contemporary life for her 1980's generation. This painting measures 30.7 x 21.65 inches, (78 x 55 cm) unframed and is in excellent condition and comes to artnet Auctions directly from the Studio of The Artist, China.

Biying Zhang received her BFA in 2008 from the Central Academy of Fine Arts, in Beijing, and an MFA in 2011 from The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, in Boston in affiliation with Tufts University, US. The artist has won numerous awards including the Karsh Prize in Photography in 2010 and the Mima Weissmann Memorial Fund for the Study of Ceramic Arts, Office for the Arts at Harvard in 2009. She has held extensive exhibitions internationally in major museums and galleries including in 2012: The 5th Beijing International Art Biennial at China's National Museum of Fine Arts in Beijing; in 2011: "Summer Party Silent Art Auction" Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and in 2010: "The Super 8 Festival Detours Santorini" in Greece.
