Lot description
Based off Warhol’s iconic ‘Marilyn’ series, notorious street artist Banksy creates a contemporary rendition by appropriating supermodel Kate Moss’ visage for pop portraiture. With bright, eye popping colors, Banksy parallels Warhol’s approach to pop imagery with this screenprint of Moss, capturing her famous look and dazzling appeal. Numbered 14/20, this framed work is also signed, and dated lower right.

British born Banksy (B.1974) is a prolific graffiti artist and political activist, who combines satirical street art with subversive epigrams. Darkly humored and acting as both political and social commentaries, Banksy’s work is commonly executed in a distinctive stenciling technique, appearing on urban environments the world over. In 2010, Banksy’s first cinematic film ‘Exit Through the Gift Shop’ debuted at the Sundance Film Festival and was met with international acclaim. Most recently he was included in MOCA’s ‘Art in the Streets’ group exhibition in Los Angeles, along with other infamous street artists Fab 5 Freddy, Futura, Shepard Fairey, Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Rammellzee, amongst many others.
