Lot description
Born in Wisconsin in 1905, Armin Landeck studied architecture at Columbia University in New York after a brief stint at the University of Michigan. His interest in printmaking soon became a career after he was unable to find work as an architect during the Depression. Manhattan's skyline was beginning to take shape in the 1930s and Landeck was there to record the new cityscape in his etchings. A close friend of Martin Lewis, Landeck achieved critical success and in 1946 was honored by the Institute of the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters for his commitment to printmaking. He died in 1984.
