Lot description
Best known for his eclectic works of ‘Accumulations’, ‘Poubelles’, and ‘Coupes’, Arman (1928-2005) redefined traditional art with his Dada-influence works of painting, sculpture, and installations. "Table (viononcelle)"(1989) is a configuration of violin shaped bronze, dramatically oriented as if twisting and dancing. This work measures 35.4 x 35.4 x 31.5 inches (90 x 90 x 80 cm), is edition of 30 and is in excellent condition.

Born Armand Pierre Fernandez, the artist was a former archaeology student, amateur cellist, and son of an antiques dealer before he was inspired by the collages of Dadist Kurt Schwitters. Arman accumulated a vast number of collected items and explored not only altering and transforming the appearance of objects, but their meaning as well. Instead of meaningless or discarded trash, Arman elevated the tattered remnants of detritus, into a fixture of his personal, artistic creativity that will last for years to come.
