This stunning, two-piece cast bronze sculpture by one of India's most famous female artists, Anita Dube, is a major example of her sculptural works that are highly metaphorical and symbolic in nature. In her sculptures, photographs and mixed-media works, Dube never fails to inspire intrigue, interest, and awareness about the social and political unrest in India.

In this Untitled sculpture where what appear to be tree branches reach out across the corner where two walls meet, towards one another, and possess an anthropomorphic quality, as if tentacles reaching out towards one another. Dube creates new and fascinating sculptural forms in many mediums, here cast bronze, as well as often using found materials. Through intricate pieces such as this rare two-piece wall sculpture, the artist explores social and political issues that she faces as an individual, as a woman, and part of India’s population.

Anita Dube entered the art world as an art historian and critic after studying history and art criticism at the University of Delhi and at M.S. University of Baroda in India. Her first artistic experimentation in the 1980s was inspired by the Indian Radical Painters and Sculptors Association, a group of radical artists who responded to the traditional style of the Baroda School through works that were not only politically and socially conscious, but also deeply personal and expressive.

Dube has exhibited her work internationally with her works in the top Private and Museum collections, and has exhibited at venues including the Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art (Helsinki), the Yokohama Triennale, the VII Havana Biennale, Sakshi Gallery (Mumbai), the Stephen Lawrence Gallery (London), and Nature Morte (New Delhi). She currently lives and works in New Delhi.
