Lot description
Stunning portrait of Debra ARMAN the wife of Yves ARMAN who was the son of the artist. Tragically, Yves Arman died in a car accident outside of Madrid after this photograph was taken. He had been a familiar fixture on the New York art scene in the 1970s and 1980s when Warhol was engaged in making polaroids.

Andy Warhol acquired a Polaroid Big Shot camera in 1970. This piece of equipment became an important part of his process, as he often took preliminary Polaroids of his subjects before creating the his large scale silkscreens and paintings. Celebrities were often the subject of Warhol’s fascination and art. He is noted to have said “I love Los Angeles. I love Hollywood. They're so beautiful. Everything's plastic, but I love plastic. I want to be plastic." In line with this preoccupation, Warhol documented many celebrities and notable figures in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, including Mick Jagger, Debbie Harry, and Jerry Hall. Warhol also documented close friends and acquaintances in the same fashion.
