This 1981 Marilyn announcement is a miniature version of Andy Warhol's most famous Pink Marilyn Monroe image, F&S II. 31, and is known Internationally as the quintessential pop icon for both the Artist and the entire Pop Art movement. This announcement was printed by Castelli Graphics in 1981 for a Print Retrospective Exhibition at the Leo Castelli Gallery, New York.

During the 1960s Andy Warhol (1928 – 1987) began to explore the iconic status of everyday objects such as his images of Campbell's soup cans and his portraits of such notable personalities as Marilyn Monroe. This is the artist's most famous image which defined both the artist and the pop movement. In 1981, Warhol had a print retrospective at Leo Castelli Gallery, the legendary gallery that represented all the important pop artists in addition to Warhol, such as Jasper Johns, Roy Lichtenstein and Robert Rauschenberg.
