Lot description
This is a beautiful impression of "Grevy's Zebra" from Warhol's Endangered Species series. "Grevy's Zebra" has not come to auction in five years, making it a highly desirability work from the series. The zebra is one of the only subjects in the series that is shown in profile, allowing for a fuller view of the animal's colorful stripes . The bold outlines of the zebra’s stripes make the work as a whole incredibly dynamic. Warhol once described these works as “animals in makeup,” and, like his celebrity portraits, the artist’s surreal palette amplifies the exotic nature of his wildlife subjects.
