Lot description
In the fifties, Warhol created several bound self-published books including 25 Cats and One Blue Pussy, Wild Raspberries, and A Gold Book. A Gold Book contained twenty photolithographs of sketches of people, flowers, and shoes. Executed with hand coloring, Warhol creates a visually sumptuous work on paper with dark browns in contrast to stark whites. While his strokes are subtle, his exemplary use of line and proportion are perfectly captured in this print.

Andy Warhol (August 6, 1928 – February 22, 1987) was a leading figure in the visual art movement known as pop art. After a successful career as a commercial illustrator, Warhol became a renowned and sometimes controversial artist. His works explore the relationship between artistic expression, celebrity culture and advertisement. He worked in a range of media, including painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, film, and music.
