Lot description
Swiss artist Andreas Walser died at the age of 22 in March of 1930. His death apparently the result of an overdose of drugs. Walser's written and painted oeuvre was created during an 18 month period, the time after which he left his home town of Chur, Switzerland, and arrived in Paris. Almost all of his work is lost, however, a significant find was made in a Parisian attic flat in the 1980s. Almost 200 works as well as manuscripts, letters and other documents were discovered.

Though Walser's life and creative career was brief and intense, he earned the recognition of important contemporary artists. Picasso sold his paintings, Cocteau endeavored to help him kick an addiction to morphine and friendships with Ernst Ludwig Kirchner and Augusto Giacometti lasted until his premature death.
