Alexandre Hogue was best known as a Southwestern painter and printmaker in the 1930s. Hogue was born in Missouri and studied shortly at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. He moved to Texas in 1925, devoting his artistic attention to capturing the landscape around him and focusing on the grandeur and hardship that fell upon the Dust Bowl during the Depression. Hogue was also a member of the Dallas Nine, a group of Southwestern artists that who valued realism and eventually came to an end with the advent of AbEx painting.
