Lot description
This work has never been framed and is in mint condition.

Alex Katz (b. 1927) is a successful artist based in New York City, where he has lived and worked for most of his life. He attended The Cooper Union in New York, where he earned his BA in 1949, and upon graduating was awarded a scholarship for one summer at the Skowhegan School for Painting and Sculpture in Maine. He attributes his success to his two sequential summers spent at Skowhegan, where he learned to paint from life and understand the importance of this practice. He continued to follow this tradition of painting throughout his artistic career, using sitters, often his wife, to create bold, flat portraits that have become his signature style. In the early 1960s, Katz began to experiment with large-scale, dramatic, and intentional cropping. Starting in 1965, he took up printmaking, a medium he has since continued to work in, focusing on both portraiture and landscapes. Katz’s works have been exhibited in over two hundred solo exhibitions, most recently at the Burkhard Eiekelmann Galerie, Dusseldorf, Germany (2012); The Barbara Krakow Gallery, Boston, MA (2012); KunstTachometer, Palma de Mallorca, Spain (2012); and Museum Ostwall im Dortmunder, Dortmund, Germany (2012).
