Lot description
Alex Katz (born 1927) is one of the most important and influential American artists of the past fifty years. Recognized as the central figure in Cool Painting, his work is characterized by a symbiotic relationship between abstraction sensuousness and rationality.

Katz's prints, frequently executed in the media of silkscreen, aquatint and lithography, reflect and reduce his standard motifs in further working steps while maintaining the brilliant color fields that characterize his painting. With his prints in particular, formal and technical precision, extreme reduction and close-up views lend each image a maximum expression of presence and extreme cogency.

With an exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston entitled "Alex Katz Prints" that opened on April 28, 2012, Katz shows no signs of slowing down. After being the subject of over 200 solo exhibitions internationally, Katz has truly established a permanent place in the contemporary canon.
