Lot description
An exceptionally lyrical print this work consists of two colored disks and amoebic masses, suggesting celestial bodies hovering over chaos. With its compositional restraint this work evokes the poetry of Japanese calligraphy.

Impressionist artist Adolph Gottlieb (1903-1974) was part of the New York School of Abstract Expressionists, and his work was exhibited alongside that of Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, Clyfford Still, Hans Hofmann and Mark Rothko. Gottlieb had a large impact on the contemporary art world for he was one of the founding members of “The Ten,” which was a group of artists that advocated abstract and expressionist painting. Since his death in 1974, his work has been exhibited in numerous retrospective shows including ones at the American Contemporary Art Gallery, Munich, Germany (2007), the Musée d´Art Moderne et d`Art Contemporain Nice, France (2008) and the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Venice, Italy (2010) among others.
