Watercolor on wove paper, 1973. Signed, titled, and dated in ink and pencil by the artist on the recto. Backed to paper which is inscribed "To Tom 'With deepest heartfelt joy in being with you' Esther."

Abraham Rattner (July 8, 1893 – February 14, 1978) is known for his rich use of color and surrealist compositions, which are often religious in nature. Rattner spent 1920-1940 in Paris where he met and studied with such luminaries as Claude Monet. Upon his return to New York he taught at several schools, including The New School, New York (1947–55), and Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut (1952–53).
