German photographer, Thomas Ruff (b. 1958), is known for developing a specific method of conceptual serial photography. The photographs are standardized by removing elements of background, adjusting light, perspective and location so that they all appear to be from the same roll. More recently, Ruff has experimented with photographs of the night sky, sometimes using a night vision device most commonly used in military and espionage applications.
