Julia Fullerton-Batten, Broken Eggs, 2005. Chromogenic Print, 16 x 20 inches, 40.6 x 50.8 cm. Edition of 10. Signed.
First recognized for her series “Teenage Stories,” Julia Fullerton-Batten captures the transitional period of the teenage years, placing large, gangly teenage girls in miniature scale settings. In her later series “In Between,” Fullerton-Batten depicts these girls falling and floating in various environments, suggesting a state of limbo and transition. Fullerton-Batten brings her observations from everyday life to her work, while also carefully controlling the photographic medium and using artificial light to create her own unique style.
