Warhol was commissioned by Time magazine to create a cover image of Michael Jackson in March of 1984. This unique silkscreen is one of several studies Warhol executed in preparation for the cover. Jackson was at the height of his career in at that time; he had released his first major solo album "Thriller" in 1982 which has gone on to become the most commercially successful album of all time, with 110 million copies sold worldwide. Michael Jackson's untimely death on June 25, 2009 at the age of 50 brought about a Renaissance of Jackson fan appreciation of his musical accomplishments. This is the perfect piece for to commemorate two of this century's greatest geniuses, Andy Warhol and Michael Jackson.
