Seller's Description:
Mod_Contemp
In this early twentieth century floral still life painting by photographer, EDWARD STEICHEN, we see the early modern Synchromist's eye for hue and movement—forms and colors radiate in waves from the center red Gaillardia daisy.
Considered one of the most significant photographers of the 20th century Edward Steichen’s canvas paintings are not often seen, although always appreciated. In 1900, the artist met Alfred Stieglitz, and the two collaborated on many projects, including the logo design for Stieglitz’ magazine, ‘Camera Work’. The colleagues also opened the Little Galleries of the Photo-Secession together. While Steichen's photographs are very well known—his 1928 photo of actress Greta Garbo is recognized as one of the definitive portraits of Garbo—his paintings are a rare treat.
