Notes:
1. A fine and very well printed 3rd state impression with the text in the tablet, lower left. There are three repairs on the lower edge. One extending .5 cm into the image, one extending 1.5 cm into the image and one extending 3.5 cm into the image. There are also two repairs on the right edge, one extending 1 cm into the image and one extending 1.5 cm into the image. The beauty of this impression and its extreme rareness compensates for these repairs.

2. There is only one known 1st state of this engraving (Fitzwilliam, Cambridge) and two known 2nd states (Albertina, Vienna and Private Collection, USA). This impression is one of only a few 3rd state impressions. Others, known to us, are in The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; The Art Institute of Chicago, The British Museum and the National Gallery in Canada. Boorsch and Lewis (Suzanne Boorsch and Michal & R. E. Lewis, The Engravings of Giorgio Ghisi, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, 1985: no. 16, page 79) indicate that they have seen no late or worn impressions of this print. Our conclusion is that this major work, in any of its three states, is extremely rare.
