An unusual two-door Forged-front sculpted steel console signed and dated Paul Evans 1972. This custom size console is five feet wide and features two oversize forged sculpted steel doors painted with pigment and decorated with acid and heat. Forged Front is the original term used in the Evans Studio for these consoles, they have since been called Sculpted Steel or Sculpted-front consoles. The large projectile elements on the front of the console are made of hand forged steel hence the name. The multiple sculptural elements on this console represent the accumulated language of visual elements that were developed from the 10 years of making that preceded the creation of this console. The decoration features several forged steel pieces, one at 7" in addition to pipe, many variations of pierced elements, gilded buttons of all sizes, welded swirls, and stalagmites of all sizes. The color palate is highlighted by intense red, blue, and yellow backed by very subtle russet and muted tones. The vibrancy of this piece allows it to sit beautifully in natural light - where other Evans consoles often require special lighting.

This console is in 100% untouched and perfect original condition. The case is in classic patinated shingled steel, wrapped with massive forged steel straps and hinges. The slate is original.

Under the direction of Paul Evans this piece was painted by Studio worker James Lee Jr. and the steel elements were made by Studio workers Ray and Skip.
