The portrait of Misia Natanson skating adorned this poster, intended for use in 1896 by the art and literary magazine La Revue Blanche, which appeared until April 1903. For Marcel Proust Misia Natanson’s salon was the epitome of society life; she was the wife of Thadee Natanson, who was co-editor of La Revue Blanche with his brothers Alexandre and Louis Alfred from October 1891, and she succeeded in winning a number of avant-garde writers, composers and artists for the magazine. Lautrec was a frequent visitor to the Natanson home in the Rue Saint-Florentin after 1893, as were Paul Valery, Henri de Regnier and Leon Blum, Catulle Mendes, the writer Octave Mirbeau, Alfred Jarry, Debussy and Claude Terrasse; later, the art-dealer Vollard, Andre Gide and the young Colette were to join the circle. It was here that Lautrec, who created the style of La Revue Blanche from 1894 to 1895 along with Bonnard, Vuillard and Vallotton, met Felix Feneon, Jules Renard and Tristan Bernard.

Two oil sketches, Dortu P.568 (Stavros Niarchos Collection, London) and P.569 (Musee d’Albi) were the preparatory works for the poster; cf. also the portrait sketch Dortu P.593.

An extremely fine fresh impression. The colors strong and vibrant. The paper in excellent condition, aside from unobtrusive printers crease.
