DESCRIPTION:
|
Notes:
1. A fine, rich impression with small margins of the 1st State (of two) of this very rare Rembrandt. Except for one margin nick and two small thin areas, upper right corner, in excellent condition. In the 2nd State, there is work added which hides the hair behind the right cheek.
2. Hind (Rembrandt's Etchings, New York, 1967: p. 97) notes that there is a study for this etching in the Bibliothèque Nationale, Paris (repr. in: Michel Rembrandt, Paris, 1893, p. 323). The etching is the reverse of this latter study.
