DESCRIPTION:

The present work is a perfect summation of Roger de La Fresnaye’s Cubist period. Each part of the composition fits the canvas without becoming entirely abstract, flouting the analytical Cubism seen in the work of Braque and Picasso around the same date. Here the two handles of the jugs mirror each other to create a focused central space towards the bulbous coffee jug. The glass to the centre-left is warped to fit the composition, with the rim offset from the base – purposely creating a curved form to correspond with the coffee cup and the centre of the jug itself.
