DESCRIPTION:

Louis Aimé Japy was born in 1840 in France; he studied under Corot and exhibited at The Salon de Paris from 1864. Japy won medals at The Paris Salon in 1870 and 1873, at The Exposition Univerelles in 1889 and 1900 and was made a Knight of The Legion of Honour – the highest honour that the French Government can bestow on an artist. Japy learnt many things from Corot and it is possible to see in his art a soft style of painting with a dramatic treatment of light. Japy’s talents are held in high esteem and his work can be found in museums throughout the world, including Amsterdam, Washington D.C., Manchester and Budapest.
