DESCRIPTION:

A study for the two figures on the far right of The Martyrdom of St Bartholomew, an altarpiece commissioned for the church of San Martino in Siena in 1635 - 36 and now lost. There are a total of six preparatory studies for this subject; in the Pierpont Morgan Library, New York, the Art Museum, Princeton University, the Art Institute, Chicago, the Courtauld Institute, London, the British Museum and in the Teylers Museum, Haarlem.
