EDITION/SET OF:  The projected edition was to be 50 but the actual printing was probably far less. Unsigned impressions were initialed by Mrs. Friedlander as they were sold.
MARKINGS:  Titled, numbered, dated and inscribed with the artist's name in pencil and countersigned with initials GF (Gilda Friedlander) by the artist's widow.

DESCRIPTION:  Very fine impression on a slightly uneven sheet of thick wove paper with full margins, slight time staining in the margins.

The striking image shows an early morning scene on the Lexington Avenue local subway train in New York City. It is among Friedlander’s best prints and one of the best American prints of its type. Friedlander was born in Latvia, studied in Italy and eventually came to live on West End Avenue in New York City.
