DESCRIPTION:

From Balli di Sfessania, Lieure 388 i/ii. A fine impression before the number on thin laid paper with thread margins; the paper is lightly discolored and the blank tip of the upper left corner is lost. Callot’s observations of the Commedia dell’Arte in Florence included many characters since lost to history. His twenty-four little prints were among the most inventive and delightful images of the century, for nothing quite like them had previously existed in graphic art.
