DESCRIPTION:
|
In the original frame, chosen by the artist.
The whereabouts of this painting, called an ‘esquisse’ by Durand-Ruel in 1887 for Ludus Pro Patria in the Musée de Picardie, Amiens, was unknown to Puvis de Chavannes scholars until its re-discovery in 2010. The canvas was cut into two parts by the artist; the smaller right-hand fragment hangs today in the Toledo Museum of Art, USA.
