DESCRIPTION:

Henri Biva was a French artist born in Paris in 1848. He entered the French Academy as a student under the direction of William Adolphe Bouguereau, Benjamin Constant, and Jules Lefebvre. It was their influence that explains Henri Biva’s controlled style of painting. Biva exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Francais, earning an Honorable Mention for his landscapes in 1892, a Third Class Medal in 1895, a Second Class and Honorable Mention in 1896, and a Bronze Medal in 1900 - the same year he was elected to Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur. Henri Biva became a respected professor and taught many talented artists including Rene Charles Edmond His.
