DESCRIPTION:
|
The image of the Pelican and the Vampire is an ancient Christian symbol of unconditional love. Appearing throughout the middle ages especially, it was thought that pelican mothers fed their young blood from their chest which they tore open with their beaks. This misconception grew out of watching pelican babies reach their beaks far into the their mothers' throat, which she she would hold close to her chest. It is a representation of Christ's ultimate love and understanding towards his fellow man.
