This model is usually sold in all the major auction houses as a 1940 JANSEN work, made either in parchment, or mirror as well. Sometimes, we can find this model with Louis XVI legs.
On our cabinets, the faun head and the elephant trunk legs base are in gilt bronze which is very rare. According to the auction records, all the parchment cabinets were usually found in gilt carved wood and very rarely in bronze. That is why this pair of cabinets is unique.
Regarding the Faun heads, JANSEN usually worked for his factory JANSEN DECORATION with Vadime ANDROUSOV (1895-1975) to create the sculptures in bronze to decorate his furnishings. Our bronze sculptures are not signed and we cannot unfortunately attribute for certain this work to ANDROUSOV. This pair comes from France and is probably a prototype of the wooden version.
A similar model of the base is illustrated in the Jansen Furniture book by James Archer Abbott, P.299.
Fully restored and refinished.
