DESCRIPTION:  A fantastically vivid and detailed canvas by Italian genre and landscape artist Rubens Santoro. The artist traveled extensively throughout Europe, painting its most prominent cities with technical skill that made him highly respected in his day. He is best known for his picturesque portrayals of Venice, executed with a most intense level of realism and beauty.

Born in Mongrassano, Santoro had a successful academic career studying at the famed Naples Academy under Giovanni Battista. Upon his graduation, the artist traveled extensively throughout Southern Europe, visiting the most scenic locales of Turin, Venice and Rome and using their breathtaking views as inspiration for his paintings. In his later years, Santoro focused his directed his skilled eye towards Northern Europe, depicting urban epicenters such as London and Paris.
