Image Date: 1865
Print Date: circa 1865
Four other prints are reported in the catalogue raisonne, all but one are in institutions (Getty; George Eastman House; Royal Photographic Society, now the Bradford Museum of Science). The fourth print noted in the catalogue is in the privately held (in the U.K.) Lindsay album. A very rare print in very fine condition and with very good tonality and little fading. The negative--not the print itself--exhibits some improper processing (typical of Cameron), especially at the top left corner and bottom right. This probably accounts for the image's rarity. Born in London, William was a son of immigrant Italian scholar Gabriele Rossetti, and the brother of Maria Francesca Rossetti, Dante Gabriel Rossetti and Christina Georgina Rossetti. He was one of the seven founding members of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood in 1848, and became the movement's unofficial organizer and bibliographer. He edited the Brotherhood's literary magazine "The Germ", which published four issues in 1850, and he wrote the poetry reviews for it. See: Cox, Ford, et. al., Julia Margaret Cameron, The Complete Photographs, pl.752. Shipping and insurance costs will be added to the price and must be paid for by the buyer. Pennsylvania and New York buyers must pay appropriate sales tax. International clients are responsible for their VAT and other custom's oriented charges.
