Fine 19th Century gilt frame
Born in London is 1857, Thegerstrom began studies at the academy in Stockholm but in 1874 he moved to France where he spent the next 12 years of his life as a student, exhibitor and as a teacher of the figurative impressionist style! In 1887, Thegerstrom visited the Orient, his trip lasting over 3 years, where painted the sights and views of the countryside and its people. He moved back to Stockholm
in the early 1890’s where he opened a studio and accepted students. The artist also made mezzotint impressions in the manner of Zorn, with whom he was friends with and painted with on many occasions. Mood and atmosphere where important features in Thegerstrom landscapes and in his many portraits, many of famous Scandinavian artists. The artist continued to exhibit his work throughout his life. Thegerstrom died in Stockholm in 1919.
