On August 8, 2008, He Yunchang underwent a surgery to remove the eighth rib (counting from the bottom up) from the left side of his rib cage. The rib has been turned into a necklace for the artist to wear. He Yunchang will make the necklace increasingly more precious by adding gems and other valuable materials to it. The process has been documented by video and photography. In each photograph, the artist is portrayed with an important female figure from his life.
