A wonderfully rare, early academic work by this renowned American artist. “Still Life” shows a highly polished Tarbellian influence on the young Hibbard, who at the time was studying under the great Boston School painters at the Museum School, before travelling abroad under the Paige Scholarship in 1913. The work is in excellent conserved condition, the canvas lined to address unstable craquelure. To verso, the original inscription is retained: “To ‘Mac” from Al Hibbard.” The work was showcased in the Best of Boston in 2000. The painting is handsomely housed in a gold leaf hand carved frame.
