DESCRIPTION:  Reference: Czestochowski 38, only state. In very good condition, on a simile japan paper, archival mounting.

A very fine, rich and early impression - with substantial burr from the drypoint work - of this American cubist rarity.

The only impression of Figure in Glass of comparable quality we are aware of is at the National Museum of Art, Smithsonian Institution, pictured in the Czestochowski catalogue. Most impressions of Figure in Glass which have reached the market (very few in recent decades) are worn and without burr; these were printed posthumously by Frank A. Nankivell in 1929.

At the time of the 1913 Armory Show, which introduced modern art to America, Davies was generally regarded as the foremost American artist - it was for this reason that the organizers of the Show asked him to endorse it, and he did. Davies became interested in Cubism for a number of years after this period, creating paintings and prints in a Cubist manner. In our opinion Figure in Glass represents his most successful Cubist print.
