DESCRIPTION:  This etching is part of a portfolio entitled "El lugar, los instrumentos" done by Szyszlo in 1991. They were printed and published by Arte Dos Grafico de Bogota, Colombia. They are accompanied by the text by Georges Bataille and Marcel Mauss. The text pages are full size, and each page of text is printed on Fabriano paper, and done by hand, and each page of text (seven total) is accompanied by an unsigned, embossed etching, in addition to the signed and numbered etching shown here. The etchings are printed on Arches paper, and are in pristine condition, are signed in white pencil, and numbered 43/99, in white pencil. Each has the blind stamp of the publisher. The condition is remarkable, and each etching is done with deep, rich colors, and convey the mysterious, mystical, magical power of all great work by this Latin Master. This portfolio is complete, and in addition to a gorgeous red slipcover, with Szyszlo's name signed on the front, there are additional pages of poetry, totaling about 10 pages.

This portfolio is very rare. This is the first time this gallery has seen one on the market. It is available complete, or we may consider splitting it up, if a collector was interested in two or more images from the portfolio. We will include a new monograph by Poligrafa, in Barcelona, with the purchase of this exquisite portfolio. It is the best book on Szyszlo's work currently available.

PROVENANCE:  the artist is from Peru, but the work was printed and published in Colombia
