A Louis XV style ormolu mounted kingwood and parquetry mueble d'appui, By Francois Linke, Index Number 204, For Maison Krieger, Paris, Early 20th Century
The serpentine griotte de Campan rouge marble top above afoliate framed bombe door with 'crab' clasp to the bottom, with similar shaped sides and angles mounted with foliate clasps, on short cabriole legs tapering to scrolled sabots, the back with label engraved KRIEGER/PARIS, the reverse of the mounts signed FL
This popular model, originally conceived circa 1887 with mounts designed by Leon Message was also produced in marquetry and double door versions in the 20th century. Christopher Payne cites that index number 204 first appeared in Linke's daybooks bearing the title bahut simple Crieger and notes that Linke frequently misspelled the famous retailer's name.
