The schooner Baltimore Chasseur was built by Thomas Kemp, Fells Point, Baltimore, in 1812 as a privateer during the War of 1812. Chasseur was the most famous of the so-called Baltimore clippers – sharp, heavily, dangerously canvassed, but lightly sparred vessels built around Chesapeake Bay. Chasseur exploits on both sides of the Atlantic earned her the nickname “Pride of Baltimore.”
