DESCRIPTION:
|
Let us now consider The Sensitive Chord. Before a typical landscape, a river flowing in a plain with mountains in the background, appears a though description of water. Under the aspect of two elements charged with containing it (one, artificially, the glass, and the other, naturally, the cloud) water is here shown as water without itself appearing. It is shown by what usually contains it and ordinarily lets it appear. The glass and the cloud are not water. This astonishing association between the galss and the cloud makes one think water in a unique strangely new way, with one's regard turned towards the Being of water in retreat from itself. The beauty in the work of Magritte is the seeing of a thing in its Being.
